It's Christmastime.
Whoopdeedoo.
Saturday was the day of my work Christmas/year end get together. Usually when we go out we head to a local galbi jip close to the school after classes finish. I think that's fine, and I always love going out for a meal with people - so I don't care where we go or what we eat. Anything's good!
But this year it was decided we would meet on a Saturday at a nice shabu shabu/buffet restaurant. Cool! I was really looking forward to it, and frankly - as pathetic as it is - this was the only thing I had going on for Christmas.
So I woke up earlier than I normally do and showered and dressed. I even wore makeup because I was going out! With grownups! Yeee ha. I'd painted my nails all Christmassy the night before.
And I gathered the presents I'd bought for my coworkers and boss.
I headed downtown to the nice restaurant we were going to meet up at and I was totally on time. My coworkers weren't there yet. I checked through the restaurant to make sure they hadn't already gotten a table, much to the distress of the hostess who followed right behind me as I searched. So I sat down in the waiting area and, well, waited.
Christmas carols played overhead. I was so hungry, and the smells wafting near from the restaurant made me want to drool. I pulled out my book and read while I waited for my colleagues to show up. And I waited. And waited.
For two hours.
The more time went by, the more I felt like SUCH a complete loser. I was stood up for a party that they'd arranged.
Awesome!
Merry Shitmas, y'all!

I wonder if this wasn't a case of Let's Change Plans at the Last Minute Syndrome coupled with Let's Forget to Tell the Foreigner Disease-- two maladies often found together.
Anyway, I'd suggest splurging on some nasty-awesome food all by your lonesome, but I gather you're a much more social creature than I am.
Merry Christmas, whatever you decide to do!

NO! I'm so angry! I want you to do something really good for you. But, I'm very pissed at those co-workers! Upsie wants to scratch their eyes out!
By the way, your nails look fabulous!
Awww thanks Sher! And Upsie!
Kevin - I'm fairly sure it was a deliberate stand-up. I called my boss last night and asked her what happened - and she didn't know what I was talking about. She had told Jane a few days ago that she wasn't going to be able to make it yesterday - which is funny - because when I asked Jane on Friday night if the boss was coming she said "Of course!" Ah well. I ended up eating at the sushi-go-round at Lotte Department store. I want to eat your Xmas dinner though - sounds yummy!
Merry Christmas!!
I am in Siem Reap (Cambodia) now but will be leaving for Luang Prabang (Laos) later this afternoon.

What dirty butt f**kers.
I've been following your blog for a while now, with all of the ups and downs and the BS that you've gone through with them, I can't help but wonder why you've endured. This would be one of the final straws for me. It sounds so... I don't know... high school-ish to me.
Jenn,
Wow...you waited two more hours than I would have :)
Merry Christmas!
Sorry to hear that, but I suspect you probably have something far more positive than what you appear to be going through in the bigger picture, if I may assume. Wish you a good holiday season.
what a crappy thing for them to do! I hope at least your sushi was good. I agree that sometimes I have no idea why you stay teaching there. There must be some wonderful things that you enjoy there. I do love reading your experiences and how you just put everything out there. I admire you for being so comfortable in your own skin. Perhaps that is why the others are uncomfortable around you and stood you up. Still sucks though.
I'd meet you for some good food :)

The fuck?!?
That's the stupidest thing ever. Jerks.
At least your nails look amazing... I hope you had better times with other holiday plans.
Geeez what a bunch of pathetic low-lives.....
I'm hoping you went out and had a good time in spite of those jerks!
You guys are so sweet!
I hope you had a great Xmas!
